Understanding Turf Thickness

Turf is measured industry-wide by pile height — the length of a single grass yarn when straightened. Because the yarn curves in its natural resting state, the installed surface sits lower than the pile height figure. Both measurements are listed above so you know exactly what you are getting.

This matters when your track runs alongside rubber gym flooring. Our rubber gym tiles are 15 mm thick and our rubber rolls are 8 mm, so turf glued directly to a concrete slab will sit lower than the surrounding floor. To achieve a flush, trip-free transition, pack the track area up with plywood before laying — 9 mm ply brings the turf level with 15 mm tiles. Against 8 mm rolls the step is much smaller, and a thin packer or a silicone edge bead is usually enough.

Installation

• Substrate: lay direct to a clean, level slab, or onto plywood where you need to finish flush with rubber flooring.
• Adhesive: allow 1 litre per 1.5 m² using a 4 mm notched trowel. The open backing weave requires more adhesive than a generic turf glue chart indicates.
• Laying: roll out dry to check alignment, then work from the centre outwards, weighting each 2 m section as you go.
• Joining the rolls: lay both rolls with the pile running the same direction, butt the join tightly, and weight it while the adhesive cures.
• Edge finish: seal the long edges with a black silicone bead to close the joint and prevent backing fray.
• Curing: weight the track overnight and allow 24 hours before sled use.
